Spring is business conference season – which means that you need the right technology tools to manage your travel details, remember your packing list, and stay social at the events. How can you achieve your conference goals? The OXO Digital Organizing team explains below.
How to Go Digital at Business Conferences
First, plan ahead by manage your general travel information with Google Trips. This free app for iOS and Android will organize your plane tickets and hotel reservations and make personalized recommendations for restaurants and extracurricular activities based on your Google history. If you’ll spend some time overseas or offline, have no fear – you can download everything into your phone before you leave, including maps and walking directions.
Next, print or download your event material. Many conferences are now going paperless, so don’t assume that you’ll receive materials on site. Check with your event’s website to see if you will need to download or print the items ahead of time and plan accordingly. Also, make sure to have your devices charged and bring a portable charger to keep your phone or tablet juiced up all day.
Finally, never forget your dress heels or presentation notes again with a dedicated packing app like PackPoint. This travel companion is available in a variety of languages and helps you pack based on where you’re going and what you’re doing there.
At the Event
At the event, you can start scanning those name badges and contact information before you get back to the office. We like the Scannable app, which keeps instant track of business cards, receipts, and notes. Best of all, Scannable integrates with Evernote, LinkedIn, and Dropbox, just to name a few, so you can put everything you need in the place that makes the most sense to you. What’s more, it’s absolutely free to use (Yay!).
It’s also important to use social media during your conference so you can share what you’re learning and where you’re exhibiting. You can also use platforms like Twitter and Facebook to research attendees or vendors prior to the event and check if the event has a hashtag to use on Twitter or Instagram.
After the Conference
Don’t forget to follow up with the people you meet! After the conference, take the items you scanned with
Scannable and send a personal note to those you’d like to continue to build a relationship with. Finally, consider building what we at OXO like to call a “recovery day” to regroup and follow up on life after being gone.
Our next conference is the 2017 APPO Conference from March 29-April 1 in Cleveland, OH. Join OXO Digital Organizing at the event in testing out the Scannable app and let us know if there’s a tool you especially love. You can message us on Facebook – or reply below to share.
